What we do
- More than 311 volunteer hours were contributed in 2016 with 21 field work sessions, seven planting days and two foreshore clean ups conducted.
- Approximately 10,000 indigenous trees and shrubs planted into the Point Walter bushland Reserve.
- More than 1,000 seedlings planted along the foreshore by Bicton Primary School and BEAG members.
- Weed control in the bushland between Kent St and Point Walter Rd to facilitate further planting.
- Clean up of rocks and shell from the swimming area at Bicton Baths. Approximately five cubic metres of rock and shell collected annually.
- Developed a herbarium of local plants and introduced weeds in conjunction with City of Melville staff member Errol Allen to help group members to identify plants in the bushland.
- Trialed smoke water treatment of seed as an alternative to planting seedlings.
- Installed 10 bat boxes in the bushland reserves.
- Conducted planting, clean-up and restoration projects with year 5 and 6 children at Bicton Primary School and assisted in the establishment of an adventure playground at the School.
- Implemented a fox and rabbit control program in the reserves.
- Trained members on use of GPS.
- Acquitted grants of $35,000 for weed and erosion control, fencing and planting.
